Our history
A house steeped in history
Bourgvilain in southern Burgundy, a small village of 340 inhabitants ideally situated between Mâcon, Cluny and Sologny, in the heart of Lamartine country.
Les Arbillons was once a mill, perhaps the one mentioned by the poet Alphonse de Lamartine in his work "Le Tailleur de Pierre de Saint-Point".
The orangery was built on the foundations of the original mill, below the house and the canal that brought the water to the paddle wheel. A metal wheel has replaced the wooden paddle wheel.
The house remained in the family, since it was Mr DUTHION's son-in-law, Albert FAVRE, who bought it from his father-in-law in 1908.
At the age of 64, Albert FAVRE sold his businesses and settled permanently in Les Arbillons with his wife and children.
Both childless, they decided to take in women and children in great socio-economic or family difficulty, and did so for two decades.
It was legally adopted by Jeanne Favre in 1969 and from then on bore the name DUBOIS-FAVRE.
La Demeure has welcomed many tourists to its gîtes and guest rooms, many of whom have become friends.
They manage a holding company that brings together the worlds of sport, catering and wine.
